Yamaha’s Timberwolf 250 was introduced in the early 1990s as a compact utility ATV aimed at work and general off-road use. The YFH250U variant was the 2WD Timberwolf sold in the U.S. market, built around Yamaha’s 229cc air-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine, a five-speed transmission with reverse, and shaft drive. Its formula emphasized low-speed tractability, easy starting, and practical utility rather than high performance, with front and rear cargo racks making it well suited to farm, ranch, and recreational chores. This model line established the Timberwolf name as one of Yamaha’s recognizable small-displacement utility ATVs of the era. Yamaha later continued using the Timberwolf name on other 250-class ATV variants, but this YFH250U designation belongs to the original early-1990s 2WD production run.
