The WR250X was Yamaha’s street-oriented supermoto counterpart to the WR250R, developed from the same 250cc liquid-cooled four-stroke platform but fitted with 17-inch wheels and road-focused chassis tuning for sharper on-road handling. Yamaha first announced the model in 2007 and launched it for the 2008 model year as a premium lightweight street sport machine aimed at riders who wanted WR-family performance in a supermoto package. It quickly became known for its compact size, aggressive styling and close connection to Yamaha’s competition-derived WR identity. Yamaha continued to refresh the model with annual color and graphic updates in later model years, including 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017-model releases. In Yamaha’s U.S. parts catalog, the WR250X appears in multiple model-year listings, including 2008 and 2011, showing that the nameplate carried on through the 2017 model year. The WR250X remained a niche enthusiast machine and one of the clearest factory supermoto offerings in Yamaha’s small-displacement motorcycle lineup.
