Yamaha’s CE50 designation first appeared on the original JOG scooter, introduced in 1983 as a lightweight 50cc commuter with a sporty, youth-oriented character. Yamaha’s own history materials identify the first JOG as the company’s flagship scooter of that era, and the Communication Plaza collection shows the 1983 JOG (CE50E) as a production model from 1984. The early machine helped define Yamaha’s small-scooter image in Japan, pairing compact dimensions and quick, lively performance with practical everyday usability.
The CE50 nameplate then re-emerged much later on a very different JOG family. In 2007, Yamaha launched a new JOG CE50 as a completely redesigned standard scooter, moving the model line to a modern four-stroke fuel-injected format and repositioning it around clean operation, ease of use, and broad commuter appeal. Yamaha continued to market CE50-badged JOG variants in the following years, including standard, deluxe, low-seat, and sport-oriented versions, with model-year updates documented through the 2010s.
Because the CE50 designation was used in separate historical periods rather than one uninterrupted run, it should be treated as a nameplate with multiple production eras. The first appearance dates to the original 1983 JOG, while the later CE50 series represents a revived and substantially redesigned chapter of the same Yamaha small-scooter lineage.
