The 1700cc VMAX retained a loyal following in North America, Europe, and Japan, where it stood apart from typical power cruisers by combining drag-race-inspired character with modern electronic controls and a more sophisticated chassis than the original. Yamaha continued offering updated model-year versions for more than a decade, including later special editions and cosmetic changes, before ending production after the 2020 model year.
