This Yamaha snowmobile nameplate was introduced for the 2005 model year as part of Yamaha’s RS series, a new generation of four-stroke performance and performance-touring sleds. It was positioned as a rough-trail machine rather than a pure race replica, aimed at riders who wanted a more refined, fuel-conscious, low-smoke alternative to the company’s earlier two-stroke performance models. For 2007, Yamaha introduced a separate GT version that carried the Rage name into a new trim direction, but that was a distinct marketed variant rather than a continuous extension of the original base model. Based on Yamaha parts-catalog references and model-year listings, the original RS Rage’s continuous production run was limited to 2005 and 2006. It is remembered as one of the early RS-era Yamaha sleds that helped establish the brand’s four-stroke snowmobile identity in North America.
