Yamaha introduced this snowmobile nameplate for the 2008 model year as a new four-stroke performance line built around the company’s 1049cc triple-cylinder engine. It marked Yamaha’s push to broaden its snowmobile lineup beyond earlier RX-1-based machines and to offer a more modern sport platform for rough-trail and mountain use. Early versions included trail and mountain variants such as the R-TX and M-TX, and the range quickly became the basis for a family of related models aimed at different snow conditions and riding styles.
Over the next several model years, the nameplate evolved through successive updates rather than a single static design. Yamaha added and revised versions for groomed trail, deep-snow, and crossover use, including X-TX and X-TX 1.75 models, while also refining chassis, track, and suspension components. By the 2014 model year, the nameplate was still present in Yamaha’s snowmobile lineup, even as Yamaha also introduced the SRViper as the successor to the original rough-trail concept. In Yamaha’s history, this nameplate is remembered as the company’s flagship 4-stroke sport snowmobile family from the late 2000s into the mid-2010s.
