FOX

The Fox nameplate has appeared on two distinct Volkswagen passenger-car lines. The first was a Brazil-built export model sold in North America from the 1987 model year through 1993, where it served as an entry-level compact. After a long gap, the name returned on a different car developed by Volkswagen do Brasil: a high-roof subcompact launched in Brazil in October 2003 and later sold in Europe from 2005. That second Fox became known for its upright packaging, practical interior space, and broad family of derivatives in South America, including the CrossFox and SpaceFox. In Europe, it was positioned as the brand’s smallest model after the Lupo and remained on sale there through 2011, while the Brazilian Fox continued much longer. Production in Brazil ended in 2021, closing an 18-year run for the revived nameplate. Because the Fox badge was used for separate production periods with a clear gap between them, the nameplate history should be treated as discontinuous rather than one uninterrupted generation.
