MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the EuroVan

Volkswagen brought the T4-generation van to North America for the 1993 model year under the Eurovan nameplate. It was a major departure from the rear-engined Volkswagen vans that came before it, adopting a front-engine layout and a more modern, road-trip-friendly package. In the U.S. market, the Eurovan became especially known for its versatile cabin and for camper-oriented versions with pop-top equipment, which helped establish a devoted following among travelers, campers, and VW enthusiasts. Over time, the nameplate came to cover both passenger and recreational derivatives in North America, including later VR6-powered examples that broadened its appeal. The Eurovan remained in Volkswagen’s North American lineup through the 2003 model year, after which the T4-era van ended its run in this market.
