TR8

This nameplate was the V8-powered evolution of Triumph’s wedge-shaped TR7, created as a more performance-focused version aimed primarily at North America. Development was delayed by industrial disruptions, so the car reached production only near the end of the 1970s, with factory-built examples appearing from 1979 and continuing through 1981. It combined the TR7’s basic body and chassis package with Rover’s aluminum V8, giving the model a very different character from the standard four-cylinder car. Triumph planned the car as a left-hand-drive export model first, and only a small number of right-hand-drive cars were produced for the UK market. Production remained limited, making it one of the rarest Triumph TR models and a particularly sought-after version among enthusiasts. The model is remembered as the final, most muscular chapter of the classic Triumph TR line before the brand’s traditional sports car era ended.
