This adventure-touring nameplate was introduced as the wire-spoked-wheel variant of Suzuki’s revised liter-class V-Strom family for the 2017 model year, following the earlier 2014 V-Strom 1000 revival. Suzuki positioned it as a more equipment-rich, road-and-distance-focused version of the standard model, with the XT designation marking the adventure styling and spoke-wheel setup that appealed to riders looking for a tougher-looking, more versatile long-distance machine.
The bike’s roots go back to Suzuki’s earlier V-Strom 1000, first launched in the 2000s, but the modern era began with the 2014 full model change that re-established the big V-Strom as a sport-adventure tourer. For 2017, Suzuki gave the platform a notable update and added the XT version as a distinct trim within the lineup. The refreshed machine carried forward the 1,036 cc V-twin architecture and the V-Strom’s emphasis on comfort, usable performance, and travel-friendly ergonomics, while the XT brought wire-spoke wheels and related adventure-themed details.
This nameplate remained part of Suzuki’s global motorcycle lineup through the end of the 1000-series run, after which Suzuki replaced it with the V-STROM 1050XT for the 2020 model year. In that sense, the 1000XT represents the final evolution of Suzuki’s original liter-class V-Strom before the model was renamed and updated for the next generation of the family.
