Introduced for the 2003 model year, this large-displacement V-twin sport bike extended Suzuki’s SV line into the liter-class middleweight segment. It was developed as a more powerful sibling to the SV650/SV650S, using the same basic formula of a compact V-twin engine, a lightweight chassis, and approachable road manners, but with a stronger emphasis on open-road performance and higher-speed stability. The half-faired version carried the nameplate’s sportier identity, pairing a slim front fairing and dual headlamps with a riding position that was less extreme than a pure supersport machine. That made it appealing to riders who wanted V-twin character and everyday usability without giving up a full-sized sporting chassis.
The model arrived during a period when Suzuki was expanding the SV family and using it to bridge the gap between approachable twins and its higher-strung inline-four sportbikes. Over its run, the machine was offered in several model-year updates and market-specific variants, but it remained recognizably the same concept throughout: a practical, torque-rich sport motorcycle with strong enthusiast appeal and a reputation for nimble handling. It is also closely associated with the early-2000s wave of affordable V-twin sportbikes that balanced road usability with enough performance to attract experienced riders.
Production ended after the 2007 model year, and the nameplate did not continue into a second era under the same original format.
