The Story of the GSX-S1000GT/GSX-S1000GT+

Suzuki introduced this sport-touring nameplate for the 2022 model year as a clean-sheet replacement for the GSX-S1000F, shifting the GSX-S1000 platform into a more focused grand-touring role. The new model was unveiled in September 2021 and reached dealers in early 2022, with Suzuki describing it as a globally marketed sport tourer built around the GSX-R1000-derived engine and a stronger emphasis on comfort, wind protection, electronics, and long-distance riding. In some markets, the base machine was sold as GSX-S1000GT, while North American versions also used the GSX-S1000GT+ designation for the factory side-case-equipped specification.

The GT family marked a major change in Suzuki’s liter-class street lineup. Rather than an incremental update, it was presented as a new concept that combined supersport-derived performance with touring equipment and a full fairing. Suzuki highlighted the model’s electronic rider-aid suite, smartphone connectivity, and TFT instrumentation as important parts of the GT’s identity, along with its emphasis on a more relaxed riding position and everyday usability. That positioned it as a modern sport-tourer aimed at riders who wanted open-class performance without giving up weather protection or long-haul practicality.

Unlike some Suzuki nameplates that have had multiple distinct eras, the GSX-S1000GT/GT+ is a recent, continuous production line with no known discontinuation and revival. It remains part of Suzuki’s current sport-touring range and has continued into later model years with annual updates, color changes, and market-specific equipment variations rather than a full replacement. The result is a contemporary grand-touring model that extends the GSX-S1000 lineage into a more distance-oriented format while keeping close ties to Suzuki’s GSX-R performance heritage.
