Suzuki’s middleweight GS500 nameplate first appeared in 1989 as the GS500E, an affordable unfaired roadster aimed at riders who wanted simple, low-cost transportation with a genuinely usable full-size chassis. It became known for its approachable character, everyday durability, and easy ownership, which helped it earn a long-life reputation in commuting, rider-training, and budget enthusiast circles.
The original GS500 stayed on sale through the early 2000s, but Suzuki gave the model a short break for the 2003 model year. In 2004, the nameplate returned with the GS500F, a faired version that gave the plain standard bike a more sport-oriented look and some added wind protection. That revival kept the same basic formula intact: a straightforward parallel-twin, air-cooled street motorcycle built around value and friendliness rather than outright performance.
