It was closely related to General Motors’ GMT360 truck platform and shared its core architecture with other GM midsize SUVs, which made it a relatively quick way for the brand to add a utility vehicle to its lineup. Even so, it was given distinct styling and a more premium, Scandinavian-flavored interior treatment to separate it from its corporate relatives.
The vehicle was assembled in the United States and was aimed primarily at the North American market, where demand for luxury SUVs was strongest. Early versions were offered with different six-cylinder and V8 powertrains, while a sportier Aero variant arrived later in the run and became the halo version of the nameplate. That Aero model helped give the line a more performance-oriented identity, even though the vehicle remained fundamentally a body-on-frame SUV underneath.
Production ended after the 2009 model year, making this a single, continuous run with no later revival. As a result, it stands as a brief but notable chapter in the brand’s history: an unusual, GM-based SUV that broadened the lineup beyond its traditional cars and became the only model of its kind from the marque.
