This compact nameplate was introduced in North America for the 2005 model year and was sold only for a brief two-year run. It was a Saab-badged, Saab-tuned interpretation of the Subaru Impreza wagon, created during the GM-Saab era as a quick way to add an entry in the small premium hatchback segment. The car was notable for mixing Swedish branding cues with Japanese underpinnings, giving Saab buyers a smaller, more affordable alternative to the larger 9-3 while also appealing to enthusiasts who wanted all-weather capability and a practical five-door body style.
The model arrived in two main personalities. The more basic version was aimed at buyers who wanted an economical compact with Saab styling and utility, while the higher-spec performance variant emphasized turbocharged character and a sportier suspension setup. Although it shared its core architecture with the Subaru donor vehicle, Saab gave the car its own front and rear design treatment, interior details, and chassis tuning so it would fit the brand’s image more closely than a simple rebadge.
Production ended after the 2006 model year, and the nameplate was not carried forward into a second generation.
