Polaris first used the Widetrak name on utility-oriented snowmobiles by model year 1990, when the name appeared on early long-track sleds such as the original Widetrak and Widetrak 500. In the early 1990s, the name was also used on Indy-badged utility models, including Widetrak GT and Widetrak LX variants. Over time, the line evolved into the Wide Trak LX and later IQ-based versions, reflecting Polaris’s move toward more refined work-and-play utility snowmobiles. The nameplate then shows a clear break in the historical record before returning in later years, including the 2016–2019 WideTrak LX era and the IQ-era models. Because the nameplate appears in separate production runs rather than one uninterrupted span, the history should be treated as multiple periods rather than a single continuous line.
