Polaris introduced the Assault nameplate for the 2014 model year as an aggressive snowmobile concept aimed at riders who wanted stronger off-trail capability without giving up trail manners. In its original form, the name was used on both RMK Assault and Switchback Assault variants, with the RMK version leaning toward deep-snow performance and the Switchback version positioned as a more versatile crossover. That dual-role identity helped establish Assault as a performance-focused badge rather than a single niche sled. Over time, the lineup evolved and the Assault identity remained tied to Polaris’s crossover snowmobiles, where it continued to represent a firmer, more hard-charging alternative within the brand’s trail-and-backcountry range. The nameplate has stayed in production through recent model years, and it remains one of Polaris’s better-known performance snowmobile designations.
