The Story of the MKT

This large luxury crossover arrived for the 2010 model year as Lincoln’s three-row alternative to a traditional full-size SUV or sedan, aimed at buyers who wanted premium seating, highway comfort, and a distinctly styled family vehicle. It carried Lincoln’s then-current design language into a new body style and quickly became one of the brand’s more unconventional nameplates. Early in its run, the vehicle was also used in livery-oriented applications, helping it replace the long-running Town Car in commercial service. Over time, it became known as a niche model with a loyal following among buyers who wanted something roomier and more distinctive than the brand’s sedans, but not as large or truck-like as the Navigator. The lineup remained in production through the 2019 model year, after which Lincoln removed it from the retail lineup rather than continuing the nameplate into a new generation. Its final years overlapped with Lincoln’s shift toward a broader SUV-focused portfolio, and the Aviator ultimately filled the brand’s three-row luxury role for retail customers.
