This 250cc motocross nameplate began in the mid-1970s as one of the original machines in the brand’s off-road racing line. The early run was a two-stroke racer that became a familiar sight in national motocross competition and remained in production through the late 1990s, helping establish the machine’s reputation in the class. After that first era ended, the 250 designation returned in a new four-stroke form in the 2000s under a slightly different suffix, reflecting the industry’s broader shift away from two-strokes in premier motocross. That second era continued to evolve through major chassis and engine changes, including the move to fuel injection and other race-focused updates. In 2020, the original 250 nameplate came back for the modern motocross model, replacing the suffix-based naming used on the four-stroke predecessor. The current generation carries forward the same championship-oriented positioning while connecting the bike to a much longer heritage. Because the nameplate has appeared in separate production periods rather than one uninterrupted run, its history should be treated as a revived model with a gap in between rather than a single continuous line.
