The Story of the QX70

The QX70 nameplate arrived in 2014 as Infiniti’s updated badge for its distinctive sport-luxury crossover, continuing the brand’s long-running FX lineage under the new naming scheme. Positioned between a traditional SUV and a performance-oriented grand touring machine, it stood out for its low, muscular silhouette and coupe-like proportions at a time when most luxury crossovers were growing more upright and conventional. Infiniti used the QX70 to emphasize style and driving character rather than sheer utility, and the model quickly became one of the brand’s most recognizable design statements.

Although the nameplate was new for 2014, the vehicle itself was rooted in the earlier FX, giving the QX70 a direct connection to a well-known enthusiast favorite. Infiniti kept the concept focused on rear-biased, road-friendly handling and upscale detailing, which helped the model appeal to buyers who wanted crossover practicality without losing the feel of a performance vehicle. Over its run, Infiniti also used the QX70 to showcase the brand’s more expressive design language and premium craftsmanship.

The QX70 did not receive a long life under its own name. Infiniti offered final model-year updates and special editions during the second half of its run, then ended production after the 2017 model year. It has remained a notable entry in Infiniti history as one of the clearest examples of the brand’s attempt to blend luxury, performance, and unconventional styling in a single crossover package.
