The Story of the TRX300

Honda introduced this 300cc FourTrax utility ATV family for the 1988 model year, expanding its four-wheel off-road lineup beyond the earlier TRX200. It arrived as a work-oriented machine rather than a pure sport quad, and Honda quickly offered it in both rear-drive and four-wheel-drive forms to suit different users and terrain. Over time, it became one of the company’s best-known midsize utility ATVs of the era, valued for its straightforward layout and long service life.

The nameplate ran through the 2000 model year as a single continuous production period. Within that span, Honda updated the chassis and bodywork over time, but the basic concept remained consistent: a durable, versatile ATV aimed at farm, trail, and general utility use. The 300 series helped establish the FourTrax identity as a practical, mainstream Honda ATV line and became a familiar choice for riders who wanted a dependable workhorse with broad aftermarket support and strong enthusiast recognition.
