MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Odyssey

Introduced in 1994, this nameplate began as Honda’s first Creative Mover, conceived as a compact, sedan-like minivan with an emphasis on low-floor packaging and easy handling. It quickly became one of Honda’s defining family vehicles in Japan, winning early praise for combining practicality with driving refinement. The model evolved through multiple generations, moving from its original Japan-market concept to broader international recognition, especially in North America, where it became a core Honda minivan. In Japan, the line was substantially reworked with a full model change in 2003, then again in 2013 with a new, lower-slung design built around Honda’s low-floor platform. After a pause in the Japanese market, the nameplate returned there in 2023 with an updated hybrid lineup. Across its history, it has remained positioned as Honda’s upscale, comfort-focused people mover, notable for balancing family utility with a carlike driving character.
