MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the NC700S

Introduced for the 2012 model year, this naked middleweight was part of Honda’s New Mid Concept family, a range built around everyday usability, strong low-rpm torque and low operating costs rather than outright performance. It debuted alongside the related adventure-styled and scooter-like variants of the same platform, and it helped establish the NC series as a practical alternative to more traditional middleweight motorcycles. One of its defining ideas was the relocation of the fuel tank under the seat, freeing up a useful storage compartment where a conventional tank would normally sit. That packaging choice, along with the platform’s emphasis on approachable ergonomics and rider-friendly power delivery, gave the model a distinct identity in Honda’s lineup.

The nameplate was launched in 2012 and was superseded by the NC750S for the 2014 model year, which makes the original 700cc version a single, continuous production run with no separate revival. In period literature, Honda positioned it as an easy-to-handle large motorcycle for commuting and touring alike, and it was also offered with Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission in some markets, adding to the model’s reputation for innovation within the mainstream roadster class. Rather than chasing sportbike numbers, it was aimed at riders who wanted a durable, economical, and unintimidating machine with a modern engineering concept and a practical everyday character.
