The Story of the CBR125R

This 125cc CBR nameplate was introduced for Europe for the 2004 model year as Honda’s small-displacement fully faired sport bike. It was positioned as an accessible entry point into the CBR family, using styling cues from Honda’s larger supersports models while keeping the package compact and easy to manage for newer riders. Honda’s official 2004 European launch materials describe it as an on-road sports model built around a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine and sourced through Honda’s Thai production network, underscoring its role as a globally oriented small-bike model rather than a Japan-only domestic product.

Over the years, the model was refreshed but remained focused on the same basic mission: an affordable, learner-friendly sports machine with full fairing bodywork and everyday usability. Honda’s UK brochures still listed it in the 2017 supersport range, showing that the nameplate endured for well over a decade in that market. In Japan, Honda also offered the model later as an imported 125cc road sport bike, which reinforced its place as a global entry-level CBR rather than a one-market special.

The nameplate was ultimately phased out as Honda’s newer 125cc street models arrived, including the CB125R, which marked a different design direction for Honda’s small-displacement lineup. The CBR125R remains notable as one of Honda’s best-known lightweight sport bikes, especially for riders who wanted full CBR styling in an A1-licence-friendly format.
