MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the FXLRST / Low Rider ST

Introduced for the 2022 model year, this is Harley-Davidson’s factory performance-touring take on the Softail-based Low Rider formula. It pairs the familiar Low Rider stance and West Coast custom attitude with a frame-mounted fairing and detachable hard saddlebags, giving the bike a more long-distance, sport-bagger character than the standard cruiser version. Harley-Davidson has described the design as drawing inspiration from the classic FXRT-era touring look, which helped establish the model’s visual identity from the start.

The nameplate arrived as a relatively new member of the Harley-Davidson lineup rather than a long-running legacy model, and it quickly became the company’s performance-focused bagger for riders who wanted a lighter, more aggressive alternative to full-size touring motorcycles. Its market position sits between cruiser and touring, emphasizing wind protection, luggage, and a more stripped-back silhouette over traditional heavyweight touring bodywork.

Since its launch, the nameplate has remained in production and has continued to evolve within Harley-Davidson’s annual lineup updates. The model is recognized by the FXLRST code in Harley-Davidson’s own documentation, and it remains tied to the Low Rider family rather than being a separate unrelated platform. Its significance lies in how it brought the old FXRT-inspired formula back into a modern factory offering, turning a custom and enthusiast theme into a mainstream Harley-Davidson production model.
