The Story of the FXDFSE / Fat Bob

This CVO-branded variant of Harley-Davidson’s Dyna Fat Bob arrived for the 2009 model year as the first Fat Bob to join the Custom Vehicle Operations program. It took the already aggressive Dyna Fat Bob formula and elevated it into a limited-production factory custom, aimed at riders who wanted the Fat Bob’s muscular stance with the added exclusivity and finish associated with CVO models. In Harley-Davidson’s naming system, the FXD prefix identifies the Dyna family, while the SE suffix marks a Screamin’ Eagle / CVO model, which helps place this motorcycle within the company’s performance-custom lineage.

For 2009, the bike was marketed as the FXDFSE. Harley-Davidson continued the model for 2010 as FXDFSE2, showing that it was not a one-off special but a short, continuous production run across two model years. The model did not carry on beyond 2010, and the CVO Fat Bob nameplate was not part of the later Dyna lineup.

Historically, this motorcycle matters because it marked the first time Harley-Davidson applied the CVO treatment to the Fat Bob concept. The base Fat Bob itself had already established a tougher, more modern-edged look within the Dyna family, and the CVO version amplified that identity with a more exclusive factory-built character. For enthusiasts, the model stands out as a brief but memorable chapter in Harley-Davidson’s custom performance history: a limited Dyna-based CVO that bridged the company’s factory-custom program and one of its boldest cruiser designs.
