MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CVO Softail Springer 3

This limited-production custom cruiser was part of the factory’s premium CVO program and used the classic springer-front-end Softail silhouette as its foundation. It arrived for the 2007 model year as a high-spec, factory-built special aimed at buyers who wanted vintage-inspired styling with modern Harley-Davidson build quality and exclusivity. Rather than being a long-running mainstream Softail, it was issued as a short CVO run with distinct yearly revisions, including 2008 and 2009 versions that carried updated suffixes within the same family.

The nameplate is significant because it linked two of the brand’s most recognizable ideas: the nostalgic springer fork and the performance-oriented, highly personalized CVO treatment. That combination gave the bike a strong enthusiast appeal, especially among riders who wanted old-school Hardtail-era visual cues without giving up the comfort and engineering of the Softail chassis. The model also stood out because CVO machines were built in limited numbers and often featured unique paint, trim, and factory accessories that differentiated them from regular production motorcycles.

Its run was brief and self-contained. The first appearance was in 2007, and the final model year was 2009, after which the springer-based CVO Softail variant was discontinued. It therefore represents a short but distinct era in the brand’s custom factory lineup, bridging the nostalgia of the springer tradition with the modern CVO approach to premium, low-volume motorcycles.
