MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CVO Softail Springer

This Custom Vehicle Operations Springer Softail was introduced for the 2007 model year as Harley-Davidson’s factory-custom interpretation of the classic Springer front end, carrying the FXSTSSE designation. It sat at the top of the Softail lineup and extended the Springer look after the standard Springer Softail had already left the regular catalog. The model returned for 2008 as the FXSTSSE2 and for 2009 as the FXSTSSE3, keeping the same basic concept while receiving the annual CVO treatment of upgraded finishes, exclusive paint, and premium components. In Harley-Davidson history, it represents the last factory-built Softail Springer-era CVO model, and it helped preserve one of the brand’s most recognizable front-suspension styles during the late 2000s. The nameplate was limited to a single continuous production run and ended after the 2009 model year.
