This aerodynamic Class 8 tractor was introduced for the 1988 model year as Ford’s answer to the growing demand for more fuel-efficient long-haul trucks. It sat within the company’s heavy-duty L-Series family and represented a more streamlined, road-oriented take on the conventional highway tractor formula, with styling changes aimed at reducing drag compared with the older, squarer heavy-truck look. Over its run, it became the best-known aerodynamic variant in Ford’s heavy-truck lineup and was sold alongside other L-Series conventionals and vocational models. The nameplate remained in production through the 1997 model year, after which Ford exited the heavy-truck business and the line ended. Enthusiasts remember it as one of the most distinctive late-era Ford commercial trucks, bridging the gap between traditional Louisville-era styling and the more aerodynamic class-8 tractors that came to define the segment in the 1990s.
