MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the FT900

This heavy-duty Ford truck nameplate belonged to the company’s conventional medium/heavy commercial lineup and was used on cab-and-chassis, tractor, dump, and other vocational bodies rather than as a consumer pickup. It appears in parts and vehicle records from the mid-1980s through the late 1990s, with evidence of 1985 model-year usage and continued listings through 1998. The truck sat in Ford’s work-focused medium/heavy-duty range alongside other F-series and Louisville-era commercial trucks, serving fleets that needed a durable chassis for demanding vocational use. As Ford reorganized its truck lineup for the 1999 model year, the heavy-duty pickup and commercial ranges moved toward the Super Duty era, and this older conventional designation disappeared after 1998.
