This Ford medium-duty and heavy-duty truck nameplate began in the 1953 model year as part of the second-generation F-Series, when Ford expanded its commercial truck range beyond the familiar light-duty pickups. In its early years, it sat in the upper end of Ford’s conventional truck lineup and was aimed at vocational buyers who needed a stout chassis for hauling, towing, and body-builder applications. The nameplate later disappeared from parts of the medium-duty range, then returned in the late 1970s as Ford reshuffled its commercial truck lineup. From that revival onward, it remained a familiar badge on Ford’s medium-duty conventionals through the 1980s and 1990s, with periodic updates to styling and equipment but the same basic market role: a hard-working fleet truck for commercial, municipal, and specialty-duty use. The nameplate was ultimately phased out when Ford reorganized its medium-duty series around the F-650 and F-750 at the turn of the 2000 model year.
