MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the ST2

This sport-touring nameplate was Ducati’s entry into a more practical, road-focused side of its lineup in the late 1990s, joining the brand’s performance character with fairing coverage, luggage-friendly ergonomics, and everyday usability. It appeared as the two-valve member of the ST family, with the later four-valve sibling arriving afterward to broaden the range. The model helped define Ducati’s touring approach for riders who wanted long-distance comfort without giving up the company’s familiar V-twin character and handling feel.

The nameplate was launched during Ducati’s strongly styled 1990s period, when the company was expanding beyond pure superbikes and exploring more versatile categories while keeping a clear Italian identity. It remained in production through the early 2000s before being replaced by later sport-touring developments. Enthusiasts often remember it as one of Ducati’s more underrated road bikes: less extreme than the brand’s superbikes, but still distinctly Ducati in layout, character, and design. Ducati has also referenced the model in its heritage materials as one of the notable machines from its 1990s-era lineup.
