This rear-wheel-drive performance sedan was introduced for the 2014 model year as Chevrolet’s modern return to a V8-powered four-door. It was closely related to the Australian Holden Commodore VF, bringing a global GM sedan architecture to the U.S. market with a distinctly American performance focus. Rather than being a revival of an earlier sedan line, it stood as a one-off modern nameplate that filled the role of a large, enthusiast-oriented Chevy performance car after the Impala SS era had ended years earlier.
The model was positioned as a discreet, understated alternative to more flamboyant performance sedans. Its layout, proportions and chassis tuning emphasized balanced handling and everyday usability, while its available manual transmission and V8 power made it especially appealing to traditional performance buyers. Chevrolet offered it in limited numbers and kept the formula largely consistent through its brief run, which helped it develop a cult following among enthusiasts who valued its combination of size, rear-drive dynamics and sleeper styling.
Production ended after the 2017 model year, making its U.S. run short but memorable. Today it is remembered as one of the last large, naturally aspirated V8 sedans sold by Chevrolet in the American market, and as an unusual example of a globally sourced GM performance car adapted for Chevrolet showrooms.
