Heavy Conventional

This Chevrolet nameplate referred to the brand’s heavy conventional medium-duty truck line from the mid-1980s, built as a cab-over-frame conventional truck for commercial and vocational use. A 1985 Chevrolet example is documented in NHTSA VIN data, showing the model used for a Class 6, 4x2 single-unit straight truck or cab-chassis application. Chevrolet’s own truck history shows that GM’s later medium-duty conventional lineup moved on with the 1988-era truck family and, soon after, the Kodiak/TopKick medium-duty trucks replaced the older heavy-conventional approach. As a result, this nameplate is best understood as a short-lived commercial truck designation from the final years of GM’s pre-Kodiak heavy-truck era.
