The Story of the Geo Sprint

This compact hatchback was introduced in the mid-1980s as a fuel-conscious import built around Suzuki hardware and aimed at buyers who wanted low purchase price and high efficiency in a very small package. Its early run established the nameplate as one of the more recognizable economy cars of the era, with a simple two- and three-door hatchback format and later special versions that broadened its appeal. For its final model year, the lineup was expanded with Sprint Metro and Turbo variants, giving the car a little more distinction before it was retired. The nameplate ended after the 1988 model year and was then effectively succeeded in GM’s small-car strategy by the Geo Metro family.
