MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Matiz

Chevrolet used this nameplate for the rebadged city car that had originally been developed and sold by Daewoo, bringing it into the Chevrolet European lineup as a fresh-badged minicar for the 2004 model year. It was positioned as an affordable urban hatchback and represented Chevrolet’s push to establish itself more broadly in Europe after the brand’s relaunch there in 2005. The car carried over the small, practical footprint that made the Matiz line popular, while the Chevrolet badge gave it a new identity in export markets. By the 2005 model year, Chevrolet’s newer Spark name began replacing Matiz in many markets, marking the end of the Chevrolet Matiz badge as a short-lived transitional nameplate rather than a long-running standalone model.
