Malibu

This Chevrolet nameplate began life as the Malibu trim on the Chevelle line for the 1964 model year, giving Chevrolet a more upscale midsize offering within its A-body family. That first-era Malibu ran through the Chevelle years until the late 1970s, when Chevrolet reused the nameplate on a downsized midsize car for the 1978 model year. After that run ended in the early 1980s, the Malibu name disappeared for more than a decade before returning in 1997 as a standalone midsize sedan. The revived Malibu became a long-running mainstream Chevrolet car, evolving through several modern generations and market shifts while staying focused on practical family transportation rather than sporty image. Chevrolet now lists the Malibu among its discontinued vehicles and identifies the 2025 model year as its final year, so the nameplate has had multiple distinct production periods rather than one continuous uninterrupted run.
