The Story of the Impala Limited

The Impala Limited nameplate was used on Chevrolet’s carryover full-size sedan after the all-new Impala debuted for 2014. Rather than ending immediately with the previous-generation car, Chevrolet kept the older front-wheel-drive sedan in production for model years 2014 through 2016, selling it alongside the redesigned Impala. This allowed the brand to continue offering the familiar, proven formula of the prior generation while the new car took over the mainstream passenger-car role.

In practical terms, the Impala Limited was the final evolution of the sixth-generation Impala body style that had been on the market since the 2006 model year. It was positioned as a value-oriented, fleet-friendly large sedan, and it was offered in a smaller, simplified lineup than the newer Impala. The model is especially notable as the last Chevrolet sedan to preserve the older Impala architecture after the redesign, making it a transitional chapter in the nameplate’s long history.

Because Chevrolet treated Impala Limited as a distinct marketed name for the retired-generation carryover, its production run is best understood as one continuous, final stint from 2014 to 2016. It did not return after that, and the nameplate ended when the last examples were built for the 2016 model year.
