MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 4500HD

Chevrolet’s 4500HD nameplate entered the modern commercial-truck lineup for the 2019 model year as part of the brand’s return to Class 4 medium-duty trucks. It was launched with the all-new Silverado Medium Duty family, alongside the 5500HD and 6500HD, to serve commercial buyers who needed a chassis-cab work truck positioned above light-duty pickups but below the largest vocational trucks. The model marked Chevrolet’s re-entry into the conventional medium-duty segment after the end of the Kodiak and TopKick era, giving fleets and upfitters a fresh platform for utility bodies, box trucks, service vehicles, emergency-response builds and other specialized applications.

Over time, the 4500HD designation has remained tied to Chevrolet’s commercial truck business rather than to a consumer pickup line. Chevrolet later continued using the 4500HD badge in its Low Cab Forward range, where the nameplate identifies a cab-over commercial chassis designed for maneuverability and upfit flexibility in urban and vocational use. That means the model evolved within Chevrolet’s commercial portfolio rather than disappearing and returning as a separate revival.

Because the 4500HD has continued in Chevrolet’s current commercial lineup, there is no verified final model year yet.
