MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Renegade

This sport ATV nameplate was introduced for the 2007 model year as Can-Am’s performance-oriented quad, positioned above more utility-focused off-road machines in the brand’s lineup. The early Renegade arrived with a high-output Rotax V-twin and selectable 2WD/4WD, establishing the formula the model would be known for: aggressive handling, independent suspension, and a focus on fast trail riding rather than work use. Over time, the line expanded from its original larger-displacement performance trims into a broader family that included mid-displacement and special-purpose variants, while retaining the same core identity as a sporty, rider-focused ATV. BRP later refreshed the platform and continued to evolve chassis and drivetrain technology, including more advanced power steering, traction management and revised suspension hardware. The model has remained part of the Can-Am ATV lineup through the present day, with modern versions continuing the same performance-first mission that began with the 2007 launch.
