MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Electric Commander

This electric version of the Commander arrived for the 2014 model year as a battery-powered off-road side-by-side in the Commander family. It was positioned as a quieter, zero-tailpipe-emissions alternative to the gasoline models, and BRP offered it in several forms, including standard off-road and street-legal Low Speed Vehicle configurations. The nameplate carried over into the 2015 lineup with trim variations such as the base machine, an XT version, and LSV-focused packages, reflecting BRP’s effort to make an electric Commander suitable for both recreational use and regulated low-speed operation. After 2015, the electric Commander disappeared from the lineup and BRP’s later Commander family returned to gasoline powertrains, making this an early and short-lived chapter in Can-Am side-by-side history.
