Introduced for the 2013 model year, this full-size luxury sedan was Cadillac’s answer to the need for a single, modern flagship sedan to bridge the space once occupied by the brand’s earlier large front-wheel-drive models. It arrived as a technology-forward replacement for the outgoing DTS-era formula and helped define Cadillac’s early-2010s shift toward a sharper, more contemporary identity.
From the start, the model was positioned around comfort, quietness, and advanced features rather than the traditional rear-wheel-drive layout associated with many large luxury sedans. One of its defining traits was the debut of Cadillac user experience, better known as CUE, which became an important part of the brand’s infotainment identity. The car was also offered with all-wheel drive and, in later performance-oriented forms, more serious powertrain choices that gave it a broader character than many buyers expected from a full-size Cadillac sedan.
The body style remained a four-door sedan throughout its life, but the model received a notable update for the 2018 model year that refreshed its exterior design and technology content. Cadillac continued to market it as a polished, spacious luxury car with a more understated mission than the sport sedan models in the lineup.
Production ended after the 2019 model year, and Cadillac later placed it among its legacy vehicles. In brand history, it stands as an important transitional nameplate: a sedan that carried Cadillac’s traditional luxury values into a more modern era while also introducing a number of features and design cues that influenced the brand’s later direction.
