This compact sedan was Buick’s answer to buyers who wanted a smaller, quieter, more affordable entry in the brand’s lineup without giving up a premium feel. It arrived for the 2012 model year as a new nameplate for North America and quickly became one of Buick’s key modern-era cars, slotting below the midsize sedan in size and price while emphasizing a subdued ride and upscale cabin presentation. Built on GM’s small-car architecture and sharing its basic engineering with other global GM compacts, it helped Buick reach shoppers who might otherwise have looked to mainstream nameplates. A turbocharged performance variant joined the range early in its life, giving the car a more energetic character and a little extra enthusiast appeal. In the U.S. and Canada, the model remained a sedan throughout its run and was sold through the 2017 model year, after which Buick withdrew it from the North American market as the brand shifted more heavily toward crossovers and SUVs. The nameplate did continue in China under separate Buick products, but the North American vehicle line itself had a single continuous production run with no separate revival in this market.
