M235

BMW first used the M235 name on the 2 Series Coupe, where the M235i arrived for the 2014 model year as the range-topping M Performance version of the new compact rear-wheel-drive coupe. That original coupe-era application established the badge as BMW’s junior performance two-door before it disappeared after the first generation run. BMW later revived the name on the 2 Series Gran Coupe, launching the M235i xDrive Gran Coupe for the 2020 model year as the performance flagship of the four-door 2 Series line. In 2025, BMW refreshed the Gran Coupe and simplified the badge to M235 xDrive Gran Coupe, continuing the same performance-oriented role in the lineup. As a result, the nameplate has appeared in separate production periods rather than one uninterrupted run. It is best understood as BMW’s compact M Performance designation for both the original 2 Series Coupe era and the later four-door Gran Coupe family.
