The nameplate is closely associated with BMW’s early water-cooled K family, which helped establish the company’s reputation beyond boxer twins in the 1980s and 1990s. The K 1100 LT became known for its refined touring focus, integrated luggage, and generous standard equipment, and it was regarded for years as one of BMW’s most capable long-distance motorcycles. BMW later expanded the model’s image with special versions such as the SE and Highline, which highlighted the bike’s premium touring brief with more distinctive trim and equipment.
Production continued through 1999, when the K 1100 LT was replaced by the K 1200 LT. As a result, the K 1100 LT stands as a distinct single-generation BMW luxury tourer, remembered as an important bridge between the earlier K 100-based touring machines and the more ambitious large touring models that followed.
