The BMW F 800 GT arrived for the 2013 model year as the sport-touring successor to the F 800 ST, carrying forward BMW Motorrad’s mid-range parallel-twin concept in a more touring-focused form. Positioned as a compact gran turismo, it emphasized everyday usability, wind protection, and long-distance comfort rather than outright performance. In BMW’s lineup it sat between the more upright F-series road machines and the larger touring models, appealing to riders who wanted a lighter, more accessible sport-tourer with BMW character.
The F 800 GT shared its 798 cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder architecture with other BMW F-series models, but it was developed specifically around touring ergonomics and practical road use. BMW kept refining the model over the years, with notable updates for the mid-2010s and a broader revision for the 2017 model year that brought emissions and control-system changes, including ride-by-wire and riding modes. That refresh helped keep the GT current in a changing middleweight market while preserving its original identity as a comfortable, belt-driven touring bike.
BMW listed the F 800 GT through the 2020 model year, after which it disappeared from the model range and was effectively replaced in the broader BMW Motorrad lineup by newer F-series touring and adventure models.
