This nameplate was introduced for the 2024 model year as part of BMW Motorrad’s updated mid-size GS family. It replaced the earlier F 850 GS Adventure-era concept with a revised adventure-tourer positioned as the long-distance, road-biased counterpart in the F-series GS lineup, while still retaining the off-road capability expected of a GS. BMW presented it alongside the new F 900 GS and F 800 GS in September 2023, and North American market launch followed for the 2024 model year.
The model’s history is tied to BMW’s modern parallel-twin GS development. For this generation, BMW increased the engine capacity to 895 cc and revised the platform broadly, giving the Adventure version new chassis and suspension hardware, updated rider electronics, and a more touring-oriented equipment set. In BMW’s own framing, the Adventure model is intended for short- and long-distance travel on and off pavement, with greater emphasis on comfort, range and versatility than the more off-road-focused standard F 900 GS.
Because this is a current production model with no verified discontinuation, the nameplate should be treated as a single continuous production run beginning in 2024. Earlier BMW adventure GS models such as the F 800 GS Adventure and F 850 GS Adventure are related predecessors, but they are separate nameplates and should not be merged into this record.
