The BMW 330Ci was the top six-cylinder coupé and convertible version of the E46-generation 3 Series, introduced for the 2001 model year and produced through the end of that generation’s coupe and convertible run. It arrived as BMW expanded the 3 Series range around the turn of the millennium, using the company’s 3.0-liter inline-six to position the 330Ci above the 325Ci as the more powerful, enthusiast-focused option. In BMW’s naming convention of the time, the “Ci” suffix identified the coupe and convertible body styles rather than a separate standalone line.
The 330Ci became especially well known in North America, where it represented the highest trim level in the standard 3 Series coupe and convertible lineup before the all-new E92 coupe replaced it for 2007. During its life cycle, BMW continued to refine the model with mid-cycle updates and special packages, including sport-oriented and performance-focused variants that made the car a favorite among drivers who wanted a balanced grand-touring BMW with rear-wheel-drive character. The 330Ci is remembered as one of the most desirable E46 variants because it combined the elegant two-door E46 body with the strongest non-M engine offered in that shape.
