BMW’s 325i nameplate began in the E30 generation of the 3 Series, where it was introduced as the line’s six-cylinder performance-oriented petrol model and quickly became one of the defining versions of BMW’s compact sport sedan formula. In BMW’s North American market, the E30 family also gave rise to the 325is, a sportier two-door variant that aligned the car more closely with enthusiast expectations through added equipment and a more aggressive appearance. The E30-era 325i and 325is became especially significant because they helped establish the modern reputation of the 3 Series as a balanced, rear-wheel-drive driver’s car rather than just a compact luxury sedan.
