Yamaha’s YZF750R was introduced for the 1993 model year as the company’s new large-capacity supersport for European markets, arriving after a long gap in Yamaha’s 750cc production street machines. The motorcycle used Yamaha’s race-derived engineering and quickly became the basis for the brand’s superbike and supersport competition efforts. Production continued as a single continuous run through the end of the 1990s, with Yamaha still referencing the model in 1998 racing and owner materials. The YZF750R is remembered as an important bridge between Yamaha’s earlier Genesis-era sportbikes and the later R-series era, helping establish the technical and styling direction that would culminate in the YZF-R1.
